Q. What inspired you to become a Mortgage Broker?
A. I love helping people buy a home, particularly their first home. I wanted a change from working at a bank and becoming an Adviser gave me even more options to help clients and comes with a flexible lifestyle.
Q. What is the best part of being a Mortgage Broker?
A. Getting an approval or pre-approval for a client and seeing the joy it brings them. Settlement day for FHB.
Q. What have you found to be the most challenging aspect?
A. Remembering I am an Adviser not a banker. The mindset is different. Having to build a client base as this is readily available when you work for a bank.
Q. What is your most memorable client experience?
A. A client was recommended to me by a previous client who had also been a difficult person to get an approval for (but I succeeded). My new client had recently separated from their partner and had just formalised their separation agreement when a tornado took out three quarters of the property. Insurance approved the claim for the work to be completed. I approached all four main banks as it was a tricky application, and I knew it would not be easy to get an approval. The client did not believe I would get approval anywhere. The only bank that would look at it was the bank which held the security. It wasn’t my clients bank of choice, but the client was happy to go where we could get an approval. It came with a huge number of conditions, which we managed to meet. The separation agreement had to be renegotiated as it had a date for completion that the builders could not meet. The client’s solicitor worked hard and we got it over the line but settlement could not take place until the build had been completed as the insurance company would not allow the ownership of the policy to change until they had signed off the claim. It was a long , drawn out process but much to my clients surprise and joy we settled earlier this year, almost a year after we started the application process.
Q. How would you sum up being a Mortgage Broker in three words?
A. Your best friend.
Q. If you were Prime Minister for one day, what would you do?
A. Get out in the community and talk to the community and ask them what is most important to them.
Q. If you could have dinner with any three people (alive or dead), who would it be?
A. Wow that is difficult. My parents, I miss them dearly, now they are no longer around. But from a celebrity point of view, Jamie Oliver at his home surrounded by his family.
Q. Complete this sentence: If I Wasn’t in Mortgage Broking, I would be…
A. Life Coach, I have a certification that I did many years ago. I use it every day in my personal life and with clients . I would probably focus on their financial needs.

Who can Susan help?
First Home Buyers
We help first home buyers achieve their dream of home ownership by reviewing their finances and helping them find the right loan. It’s never too early to start this process, and making plans early on can set you up for success.
Home Owners
Even if you already own a property, it’s a good idea to check that your mortgage is setup correctly. We often find our clients can save thousands of dollars by simply re-arranging their mortgage and negotiating their interest rate. We do this on our clients behalf at no cost.
Investment Properties
It doesn’t matter if you’re planning to build or simply buy an existing property. If you are looking to build your property portfolio, we are here to help and make sure you get it correct the first time.
